Vaginal Rejuvenation Q & A

What is vaginal rejuvenation?

It’s common for women to experience vaginal stretching during childbirth, and often the vaginal opening does not return to its former state. Vaginal rejuvenation is essentially a facelift for your vagina and typically includes several different procedures, including vaginoplasty and labiaplasty.

Vaginoplasty is a procedure done to tighten your vaginal wall, typically focusing on the entry point of your vagina. Labiaplasty reduces the size of your labia. Vaginal rejuvenation restores tightness to you vagina, improving your self-confidence and providing a fulfilling sexual experience for you and your partner.

How is a vaginal rejuvenation treatment performed?

Dr. Mussenden performs all vaginal rejuvenation procedures in-office with local anesthesia. When the procedure begins, you can expect to feel a little discomfort during the administration of the anesthetic through injection.

Once the anesthetic has set in, Dr. Mussenden removes the stretched vaginal tissue and places thin, dissolvable sutures to tighten and close the skin’s edges.

What can I expect after a vaginal rejuvenation procedure?

After the vaginal rejuvenation procedure, you can expect pronounced discomfort and swelling for about 2-3 days — all discomfort and swelling should typically be resolved after 1-2 weeks. Dr. Mussenden recommends ice packs for the first 24 hours to help reduce swelling. Depending on your condition, she may also suggest over-the-counter or prescription pain medications.

Dr. Mussenden recommends that you avoid any exercise until the surgical site has completely healed, and that you avoid sexual intercourse for at least four weeks after your operation and sometimes longer depending on your body's healing process.

It’s crucial to keep the site clean, so normal showering and bathing is recommended along with rinsing the area a few times a day. Dr. Mussenden may also use topical relief creams to apply to the edges of your vagina and surgical site. This will help to keep them soft and decrease the chance of infection.

If you’ve gone through childbirth or a traumatic event that has caused loosening of your vagina, vaginal rejuvenation might be right for you. Call today or schedule an appointment online with Dr. Mussenden for a consultation at Your Body by Design Medispa.
